Day 8 - The Island of Naxos
We drove 2 hours from Nafplio to the Athens airport to fly to the island of Naxos in the Cyclades. We arrived mid-afternoon and settled into our hotel which looks out over the sea and the Temple of Apollo (above).
Naxos Town (the Old City) is a labyrinth of narrow streets that have existed for centuries and have been built among and upon ancient castles, churches, and fortresses, and are still a vibrant bustling village. We spent the evening on a walking food tour of the town, sampling local specialties and getting to know the town with our guide.
When the church fly the flags (below) it means that the next day is the Saints Day for whom that Church is named.
Rooftop dessert tasting: (photographed after we ate it!)
Dinner Tasting: L-R
Pumpkin Soup, Zucchini “fritters” in yogurt dill sauce, French Fries covered in Feta Cheese, Chicken Meatballs in a saffron sauce, Greek Salad with a Cream Cheese like cheese (not Feta)
We ended the evening with a walk out to the Temple of Apollo at sunset, with a beautiful view back of Naxos Town as well as out to sea and some of the other islands in the Cyclades (Mykonos, Paros, Tinos, Syros).
