Day 3 - Athens: Delphi

Temple of Apollo, Delphi

This morning we drove 2 1/2 hours NW out of Athens up into the mountains to Delphi. Most known for the myth of the Oracle of Delphi and the Temple of Apollo dating back to the 2nd millennium BC. People from all over the world would travel to consult with the Oracle and hence Delphi was a center for trade and the exchange of ideas and cultures as well as commerce. We visited the museum and the ruins.

From the Museum:

What Ancient Delphi would have looked like. Temple of Apollo in the middle.

They discovered ancient hymns they would sing for the festival procession while bringing their offerings to the Temple of Apollo, including musical notations! You can listen to one of them here.

Those circles are the musical notations.

We had lunch in the nearby village of Arachova before heading back to Athens.

And at the top of all those stairs….. St. George’s Church

Back to Athens…. How cool to see the Acropolis while stuck in rush hour traffic!

Bonus Question of the Day: Who wore it better?

And have I said how much Mike and I are loving the food here?

And here’s Sophia’s vlog for today!
